Highland Chief Social Work Officer elected as Convenor of Social Work Scotland

Fiona Duncan has been elected as Convenor of Social Work Scotland, the professional leadership body for the social work and social care professions.
Congratulating her on her appointment, Cllr David Fraser, Chair of Highland Council's Health Social Care and Wellbeing Committee said: "I am absolutely delighted to learn of Fiona's appointment as Chair of Social Work Scotland.
She will be a tremendous advocate not just for the profession but also for Highland during her year of tenure on the Social Work Scotland Board.
"Highland Council supports Social Work Scotland by showing our commitment to the values of social work and sponsoring the organisation to support the Social Work profession."
Fiona Duncan, Highland Council’s Chief Social Work Officer and Chief Officer Health and Social Care said: “I am incredibly honoured to have been elected Convenor of Social Work Scotland.
“Whilst social work is experiencing significant issues in relation to workforce and resource pressures nation-wide, 2026 will see exciting and significant opportunities through the introduction of the National Social Work Agency and the Scottish Social Work Partnership.
She added: “I look forward to working with colleagues across Scotland to ensure social work continues to make a positive difference in people’s lives."
Social Work Scotland is a membership organisation which represents social workers and other professionals who lead and support social work across all sectors.
