Highland Council winter road condition report for 6 January 2026

6th January 2026

An Amber warning for snow and ice is in force for much of the Highland area today.

For the latest weather reports, please visit the Met Office website.

Winter Gritting Policy

We manage the longest road network of any council in Scotland. Because of the sheer distances involved, it is not possible for us to treat every single road simultaneously. To keep the region moving safely, we work to a strict priority system (external link) (external link). Maps of the Council's gritting routes by priority and policy are available online at www.highland.gov.uk/gritting

There has been further snowfall overnight across the roads network. Only travel if it is necessary. If you do need to travel, please drive to local road conditions.

The information provided is a summary of reports from operational staff and is intended to give a general indication of typical conditions in each area at a point in time. It is not intended to imply that any individual route is entirely snow and ice free and drivers must be aware that conditions can change rapidly and make their own assessment of conditions for travelling.
