HIE appoints new area manager for Caithness and Sutherland

Highlands and Islands Enterprise (HIE) has appointed Claire Wilson as its new area manager for Caithness and Sutherland.
Claire succeeds Eann Sinclair, who retired after eight years as area manager and more than three decades with HIE. During that time, Eann held several roles, including head of strengthening communities and programme manager for the Caithness and North Sutherland Regeneration Partnership, now Focus North.
Originally from Wick, Claire Wilson has worked with HIE for the past decade and brings extensive experience in business growth, energy transition and regional development.
After graduating in Edinburgh with a first-class honours degree in marketing, she returned to Caithness to work with the North Highland Initiative in a graduate role. She later became communications and project manager, leading the launch of the North Coast 500 and overseeing its marketing and communications during the route’s first two years.
Claire joined HIE in 2016 as a development manager working with small and medium-sized businesses in Caithness and Sutherland. She later became a senior development manager in the organisation’s energy transition and net zero team, leading work on ports and supply chain development for offshore renewables.
In 2025, she returned to the Caithness and Sutherland area team as head of business growth before being appointed area manager.
