Public Invited To Attend HIE Board Meeting

7th November 2006

HIGHLANDS and Islands Enterprise (HIE) will be holding its next board meeting in public for the first time on Tuesday, November 14.

HIE conducts eight board meetings annually at various venues around the Highlands and Islands.

Chairman William Roe said: "HIE prides itself on its policy of inclusion and openness. Although the minutes of our board meetings have been available for public scrutiny for some time, we want to extend this accountability by inviting members of the public to come in, meet us and be present when decisions are made."

The November 14 meeting will be held at Cowan House at Inverness Retail and Business Park in Inverness. Board members and senior staff will join those attending during tea and coffee at 10.15am with business getting underway at 10.45am.

Among a number of items on the agenda will be the half year review of HIE's performance, a report on progress of the network's recently announced strategy to boost the region's population and HIE's response to the National Plan for Gaelic.

Members of the public are invited to the meeting as observers and will be welcome to attend for all or part of the agenda which can be read in advance on the HIE website www.hie.co.uk from November 9. The relevant papers can also be downloaded from this date or collected at the meeting.
