Motorists advised of traffic restrictions for Etape Loch Ness

The Highland Council and partners are advising motorists of temporary road closures and speed restrictions which will be in place this weekend 25 - 26 April during the Etape Loch Ness cycling event.

The restrictions and prohibitions which are being put in place are for participants safety and to allow the Etape to take place on public roads. Permission for the traffic order been authorised by Scottish Ministers (trunk roads) and The Highland Council (local authority roads).

Access for emergency services vehicles will be maintained at all times and for vehicles employed to ensure the safety of the Event participants.

The following roads will be closed to all other vehicles at the times and dates stated:
· Any direction on the A82 Dalnottar - Inverness Trunk Road between its junction with Bught Road, Inverness, and its junction with the C1118 General Booth Road, from 05:40 to 07:15 on Sunday 26 April 2015.

· Any direction on the A82 Dalnottar - Inverness Trunk Road between its junction with the C1118 General Booth Road, Inverness, and its junction with the A831 Drumnadrochit – Cannich – Beauly Toll Road, from 05:40 to 08:05 on Sunday 26 April 2015.

· Any direction on the A82 Dalnottar – Inverness Trunk Road between its junction with the A831 Drumnadrochit – Cannich – Beauly Toll Road and its junction with the private road leading to Urquhart Castle, from 06:40 to 08:15 on Sunday 26 April 2015.

· Any direction on the A82 Dalnottar – Inverness Trunk Road between its junction with the private road leading to Urquhart Castle and its junction with the U1766 Dalcataig Road, Invermoriston, from 06:20 to 09:05 on Sunday 26 April 2015.

· Any direction on the A82 Dalnottar – Inverness Trunk Road between its junction with the U1766 Dalcataig Road, Invermoriston, and its junction with the B862 Fort Augustus – Whitebridge – Torness – Dores – Inverness Road, from 07:05 to 09:35 on Sunday 26 April 2015.

· Any direction on the B862 Fort Augustus – Whitebridge – Torness – Dores Inverness Road between its junction with the A82 Dalnottar – Inverness Trunk Road and its junction with the B852 Dalcrag Bridge – Foyers – Inverfarigaig – Dores Road, from 07:15 to 10:55 on Sunday 26 April 2015.

· Any direction on the B852 Dalcrag Bridge – Foyers – Inverfarigaig – Dores Road between its junction with the B862 Fort Augustus – Whitebridge – Torness – Dores – Inverness Road and its junction with the U1177 Foyers Road, from 07:45 to 11:05 on Sunday 26 April 2015.

· Any direction on the B852 Dalcrag Bridge – Foyers – Inverfarigaig – Dores Road between its junction with the U1177 Foyers Road and its junction with the B862 Fort Augustus – Whitebridge – Torness – Dores – Inverness Road, from 07:50 to 11:55 on Sunday 26 April 2015.

· Travelling in a northbound direction on the B862 Fort Augustus – Whitebridge – Torness – Dores – Inverness Road between its junction with the B852 Dalcrag Bridge – Foyers – Inverfarigaig – Dores Road and Holm Roundabout, from 07:45 to 12:25 on Sunday 26 April 2015.

· Travelling in a northbound direction on the B862 Fort Augustus – Whitebridge – Torness – Dores – Inverness Road between Holm Roundabout and its junction with the B861 Inverness – Leys – Inverarnie Road (Ness Bridge Junction), from 08:45 to 12:40 on Sunday 26 April 2015.

· Any direction on Ness Walk, Inverness, between its junction with Young Street and its junction with Ardross Terrace, from 08:45 to 12:40 on Sunday 26 April 2015.

· Any direction on Ardross Terrace, Inverness, between its junction with Ness Walk and its junction with Bishops Road, from 08:45 to 12:40 on Sunday 26 April 2015.

· Any direction on Bishops Road, Inverness, between its junction with Ness Walk and its junction with Ardross Terrace, from 18:00 on Saturday 25 April to 15:00 on Sunday 26 April 2015.

· Any direction on Ness Walk Upper, Inverness, between its junction with Bishops Road and its junction with Ballifeary Lane, from 05:30 to 08:00 on Sunday 26 April 2015.

· Any direction on Ness Walk Upper, Inverness, between its junction with Ballifeary Lane and its junction with Bught Road, from 18:00 on Saturday 25 April to 08:00 on Sunday 26 April 2015.

· Any direction on Bught Road, Inverness, between its junction with Ness Walk Upper and its junction with Bught Avenue, from 18:00 on Saturday 25 April to 08:00 on Sunday 26 April 2015.

· Any direction on Bught Road, Inverness, between its junction with Bught Drive and its junction with the A82 Dalnottar – Inverness Trunk Road, from 05:40 to 07:15 on Sunday 26 April 2015.

Temporary speed limits will also apply as follows:
· 30 miles per hour on the B862 Fort Augustus – Whitebridge – Torness – Dores – Inverness Road between its junction with the B852 Dalcrag Bridge – Foyers – Inverfarigaig – Dores Road and Holm Roundabout, from 07:45 to 12:25 on Sunday 26 April 2015.

· 20 miles per hour on the B862 Fort Augustus – Whitebridge – Torness – Dores – Inverness Road between Holm Roundabout and its junction with the B861 Inverness – Leys – Inverarnie Road (Ness Bridge Junction), from 08:45 to 12:40 on Sunday 26 April 2015.

The Multi-Agency Task Response Team dealing with recent fire on Academy Street, Inverness comprising Highland Council, Police, Fire, Inverness BID, contractor and partners have considered the impact of the Etape cycle race on their city centre traffic management plan for Academy Street.

The group decided that the Etape race could proceed as planned as it considered that the various traffic management arrangements can work alongside each other, without any significant knock on effects.

Community-Led Local Development Fund distributes over £900k to support projects in Highland
The Highland Strategic Local Action Group (LAG) met in June 2025 and considered and agreed funding for 28 projects submitted to the Community-Led Local Development fund (CLLD), which makes up part of The Highland Council Community Regeneration Fund (CRF) programme.   CRF is an umbrella term used to cover multiple external funding programmes administered by The Highland Council.

Additional bins will help keep popular visitor spots tidy
Visitors will find it easier to dispose of their litter at several popular spots across Highland after the rollout of additional bins.  The rollout has been planned to support the tourism season as part of the Council's ongoing commitment to improve and support sustainable tourism in the area.

Accounts Commission commends Highland Council's culture of transformation
Members of the meeting of The Highland Council (26 June 2025) have considered and agreed the Accounts Commission's Best Value report, which was published in April 2025 and highlights organisational improvements across leadership, performance management and community engagement.   In April’s report, the Accounts Commission recognised and welcomed significant progress within the organisation since the 2020 Best Value Assurance Report (BVAR) and commended the embedded culture of transformation.

Thurso masterplan and community POD progress update
A new generation of community facilities is being planned for the Highlands.   At a meeting of The Highland Council (Thursday 26 June), elected members approved the work to date in progressing the Highland Investment Plan workstreams - masterplan for Thurso and agreed to nominate the current Thurso High School site as the preferred location for the new Thurso Community Point of Delivery (POD).

Highland Housing Challenge partnership makes positive strides
At a meeting of The Highland Council (Thursday 26 June 2025), Members received a progress report on the partnership approach and important successes since declaring a Highland Housing Challenge in November 2023.   Since establishing the ambitious Highland Housing Challenge, important successes included: A call for sites delivered 250 sites, with a potential 25,000 housing units which will support delivery against the target of an additional 12,000 houses over the next 10 years.

Highland Council to deliver housing energy efficiency upgrades with ECO funding
The Highland Council will deliver a transformative programme of energy efficiency upgrades across Council housing supported by a £9.2 million Energy Company Obligation (ECO) funding proposal secured by Union Technical.   The funding proposal will deliver approximately 1,000 individual energy efficiency measures to Council owned properties across the Highlands.
