Ross and Cromarty roads update 11.46am Today

2nd March 2018

The A835 Ullapool- Ledmore Junction remains closed, An additional 6 inches on the route this morning with further snow showers forecast, drifting snow and high winds hampering treatment of route. Additional workforce has been brought in to the area helping the local squad who are attempting to push back the closure to Strathcanaird to allow access to Rhue, Blughasary and Strathcanaird.

C1047 Drumrunie - Achiltibuie remains closed and is affected by the same conditions as detailed above with a similar forecast. The surrounding townships are also affected and some roads are currently impassable. Workforce attempting to clear the area as best they can in the current extreme conditions.

A832 Gairloch-Dundonell is affected by drifting snow particularly at Mungasdale, route being treated as necessary and remains passable. A832 Dundonnell to Braemore Junction-Additional resource deployed to assist local workforce, the route has a further 6-7 inches of fresh snow and drifting also affecting the route, the route is being bladed and treated and remains passable.

A832 Gairloch-Kinlochewe-Achnasheen- Gorstan - no issues reported checked and treated.

Lochcarron/Applecross/Diabeg-Salt levels high and all roads reported to be dry - no issues.

Mid Ross - No issues reported all routes patrolled and actioned and any seepage treated.

All East Ross routes being affected by snow and drifting snow, In the Alness area the two fixed gritters have been supplied with additional resource from Mid Ross and 3 further winter maintenance vehicles have been deployed to assist with treatment of the two routes with focus being placed on the priority routes.

Invergordon and Tain, in addition to the two fixed gritters have been supplied with four additional winter maintenance vehicles to assist on the routes. Contractors have been brought in with three diggers and three tractors with ploughs also assisting. The priority being the treatment of the primary network along with access to hospitals and medical centres.

Tax Scheme Hits £4 Billion Milestone
Households across Scotland have received £4.1 billion in relief since the Council Tax Reduction scheme was introduced in 2013.   People on low incomes are eligible for the benefit if they live in Scotland - there is no equivalent in England where most councils require each household to contribute a minimum amount of council tax, irrespective of ability to do so.

Improvement Works In Thurso
The Highland Council is preparing to carry out improvement works in Thurso at Ormlie Road and at The Mall riverside path adjacent to Janet Street.   The scope of works on Ormlie Road will include junction improvements between Castlegreen Road and Juniper Drive with new drop kerbs and tactile paving and some surface repairs.

An Advantage Of A Big Common Good Fund - Inverness Winter Payments Already Awarded To Over 1,000 Households
Applications to the Inverness Winter Payments Scheme, which is fully funded by the Inverness Common Fund, have already been awarded to 1,035 eligible households within the 7 specified Inverness Wards.   Leader of Inverness Area, Councillor Ian Brown said: "Since the Scheme was opened to applications for this winter, already £114,885 has been awarded to people who live in the eligible Wards of Aird and Loch Ness, Inverness West, Inverness Central, Inverness Ness-side, Inverness Millburn, Culloden and Ardersier and Inverness South Wards.

Success Of First Highland-wide Virtual Jobs Fair
