The Nuclear Decommissioning Authority Mission Progress Report 2023

This report shows the progress being made against the NDA mission to decommission the UK's earliest nuclear sites safely, securely and cost effectively.   The NDA Mission Progress Report (MPR) demonstrates the progress being made across the NDA group since 2005, and how much work there is left to do over the next 120-plus years.

New Fellowship Launched To Support Small North Highlands Farms And Make Local Food More Widely Available

A new Fellowship has been launched, providing funding for research into supporting the viability and sustainability of crofts and small farms in the North Highlands.   The project seeks to investigate the potential of small to medium sized regenerative farmers to work at a scale that would allow them to supply to local hotels and restaurants, local shops and supermarkets.

Major Nuclear Company Rebrands As Nuclear Restoration Services

Magnox Ltd has changed its brand and from 31st October 2023 will be known as Nuclear Restoration Services (NRS).   Chief Executive Officer, Rob Fletcher said: "This is more than a change of sign - it is a demonstration of the organisation we want to be - delivery focused, transformative, innovative and growing." Dounreay Apprentices Encouraged To Make Most Of Exciting Opportunities

Dounreay's newly skilled workers were encouraged to make the most of opportunities and challenges as another year's apprentices completed the training programme.   Twelve apprentices received their certificates from Operations Director Mick Moore at this year's awards ceremony.

Thousands Of New Training Places Created As Part Of £650 Million Fusion Package

Measures announced by Nuclear Minister Andrew Bowie at IAEA Fusion Energy Conference.   Plans to transform UK fusion include training for over 2,000 people, a new fuel cycle testing facility and dedicated funding to support fusion companies.

A Mace-led Team Has Been Selected By The Nuclear Decommissioning Authority (NDA) To Support With Clean-up Activities At 17 Sites Across The UK

International construction and consultancy firm, Mace, along with AtkinsRealis, Gleeds and i3Works, will deliver a range of project & programme management and project controls services as part of a four-year framework with the NDA - the non-departmental public body working on behalf of government to clean-up the UK's earliest nuclear sites safely, securely and cost effectively.   A Mace, AtkinsRealis and Gleeds alliance has been working collaboratively with the NDA for the past two years via a framework, and i3Works has now joined the team for this latest edition to add even more capability and capacity.

Nuclear Decommissioning Authority Launches 2024 Phd Bursary Call

The NDA is looking for research proposals related to nuclear decommissioning for its 2024 PhD Bursary Call.   The NDA has launched its 2024 PhD bursary scheme as part of its commitment to developing talent within the nuclear sector and supporting the pioneers of the future.

A state-of-the-art skills centre for the UK nuclear industry has been officially opened at Sellafield.   The Glove Box Training Facility upskills operators in one of nuclear's most important disciplines.

Caithness Groups Get Lottery Awards

A number of groups in Caithness were on a long list of Scottish awards from the lottery.   Caithness KLICS (SCIO) Medium Grants Scotland: Improving Lives £76,763 Highland The group will use the funding to offer a range of activities for young carers, including weekly group sessions and after school sessions to reduce stress and provide respite bringing some normality into their lives.

Unlocking Growth - SME Debt Finance Roadshow

Norn Secures HIE Funding To Capture Offshore Wind Opportunities

A Shetland-based engineering alliance has been awarded £105,000 from Highland and Islands Enterprise (HIE) to accelerate plans to deliver major floating offshore wind contracts and large-scale energy projects.   Norn combines the expertise of four leading engineering firms - Malakoff, Ocean Kinetics, LEF and Voar Energy, all based on the islands.

There's been further improvement in the confidence businesses in the Highlands and Islands have in Scotland's economic outlook and on the performance of individual enterprises.  However, concerns over finances remain prominent.
