Public Opinion Sought On Draft Gambling Policy Statement

Members of the public are being invited to comment on a Draft Gambling Policy Statement for the coming years 2022-25.   The Highland Council is consulting on the draft policy statement on behalf of The Highland Licensing Board under the Gambling Act 2005.

Science Fiction Becomes Reality - £72.5m Investment For Laser And Radio Frequency Weapons

Three contracts awarded to produce new Directed Energy Weapons advanced demonstrators for British Army vehicles and Royal Navy frigate.   The MOD has awarded three contracts worth around £72.5 million to UK industry to produce advanced laser and radio frequency demonstrators as part of the Novel Weapons Programme (NWP).

Coronavirus (COVID-19): daily data for Scotland - 14 September 2021

3,375 new cases of COVID-19 reported.   31,837* new tests for COVID-19 that reported results 11.4*% of these were positive.

1,402 Suspected Drug Deaths In Scotland Over The 12 Months To June 2021

A publication of statistics on the number of suspected drug deaths during the first half of 2021 shows a small decrease (1%) on the same period last year, though the Minister for Drugs Policy has made clear the figure of 722 remains unacceptably high.   This first report covers January to June this year after which they will show statistics for each subsequent three month period.

The latest quarterly statistics on housebuilding and affordable housing supply have been published by Scotland's Chief Statistician.   There were 15,852 new-build homes completed across all sectors in Scotland in the year to end September 2020.

Vaccinations For 12 -15 Year Olds In Scotland

Health Secretary accepts CMO advice to proceed.   Children and young people aged 12 -15 years old will be offered a dose of the coronavirus (COVID-19) vaccination from Monday 20 September after Scottish Ministers accepted advice from the four UK Chief Medical Officers (CMOs).

Funding For Child And Adolescent Mental Health Services

Support for children and young people with mental health issues, and those with neurodevelopmental support needs.   Funding of £10.83 million has been allocated for the remainder of this year to help improve access to Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS).

School Safety - Mitigations Extended

Safety mitigations to keep children, young people and staff safe in schools will be extended until at least the October holidays.   Education Secretary Shirley-Anne Somerville confirmed that all current mitigations, including the use of face coverings by pupils in secondary school classrooms, will still be required to help keep schools as safe as possible.

Highland Confucius Hub

At the meeting of The Highland Council, Members heard a presentation on the Highland Confucius Hub by Ann MacKintosh, Principle Teacher of Languages at Grantown Grammar School.  The presentation highlighted the key work within the school and key moments from the school's trip to China in 2019.
