Innovation Reaches Deep Into The Dounreay Workforce

Innovation in the face of adversity earned Scotland's largest nuclear site a shot at Scotland's top event award.   About 100 or so workers normally attend Dounreay's annual showcase event, when staff are recognised for reaching levels of excellence in their work to decommission the plant.

First Monoclonal Antibody Treatment For Covid-19 Approved For Use In The UK

The Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) has today given approval for the first monoclonal antibody treatment for the prevention and treatment of COVID-19 in the UK.   Following on from a thorough review of the evidence carried out by the MHRA, and recommendation by the Commission on Human Medicines (CHM), the government's independent expert scientific advisory body, the MHRA has approved Ronapreve as the first monoclonal antibody combination product indicated for use in the prevention and treatment of acute COVID-19 infection for the UK.

New Powers To Tackle Cruel Puppy Smuggling Move Step Closer

Government seeks public and industry views on plans to safeguard welfare of imported puppies and dogs.   New plans to crack down on puppy smuggling and ban the import of dogs with cropped ears or docked tails have been set out by the UK Government today.

Riverbank and Lybster GP Practices to merge

Two GP practices in Caithness will merge this month bringing benefit to both patients and staff thanks to closer working relationships between the teams.   Riverbank Practice in Thurso and the Lybster Practice, based within Lybster village, have always worked closely together but the merger will now bring a formal arrangement into place.

The Scottish Government and the Scottish Green Party Parliamentary Group have agreed to work together over the next five years to build a green economic recovery from COVID, respond to the climate emergency and create a fairer country.   A shared draft policy programme - the Bute House Agreement - has been agreed.

Local Food Strategy Consultation Launched

The public are being urged to help shape the first ever local food strategy produced by the Scottish Government.   Rural Affairs Secretary Mairi Gougeon has urged everyone, from private individuals to businesses and organisations, to take part in a consultation - the first stage in a strategy to make high quality food accessible to all and promote the benefits of locally produced food and drink.

Population Estimates For The UK - Now Over 67 Million - Scotland 5.47 Million
