Helping young people succeed

More jobs, internships, apprenticeships, training and volunteering opportunities will be available for young people as Scotland emerges from lockdown.   Economy Secretary Fiona Hyslop has announced that a further £70 million for the Young Person's Guarantee will include: an additional £45 million for local partnerships to provide training and employer recruitment incentives.

Mental Health Support For Hospitalised Covid-19 Patients

People who have been hospitalised due to coronavirus (COVID-19) will have access to more support through a new dedicated network of mental health clinicians.   The Scottish Government is investing £4.5 million over three years to establish the network, which will be supported by a national strategic advisory group offering clinical expertise and guidance.

Support For Providers Of School Age Childcare

Providers of school age childcare affected by continued restrictions on their services due to coronavirus (COVID-19) can now access targeted financial support.   Up to £3 million is being made available through the Scottish Government's Temporary Restrictions Fund, which is now targeted solely at providers of school aged childcare following the full reopening of nurseries and other early learning and childcare (ELC) settings.

Welfare Advice And Health Partnerships

GP practices in some of the most deprived communities will receive £3.17 million to fund dedicated welfare rights advisors to address growing mental health concerns caused by money and housing insecurity.   Launching in September 2021, 150 GP Practices will be able to refer patients directly to an in-house welfare rights officer for advice on increasing income, social security eligibility, debt resolution, housing, and employability issues as well as helping with representation at tribunals.

655 new cases of COVID-19 reported.   25,080 new tests for COVID-19 that reported results - 2.9% of these were positive.

Council Invites Comfort Scheme Providers As Part Of £60,000 Investment In Public Toilet Provision

As part of the £1.5 million visitor management investment strategy the Highland Council has agreed up to £60,000 of investment for public toilet provision.   Therefore, in preparation for the upcoming tourist season, the local authority is looking for additional Comfort Scheme providers to complement the existing provision of 74 public conveniences and 36 comfort schemes.

A statement has been issued by the Caithness Agricultural society who run the Caithness Show.   It is with deep regret and huge disappointment that we confirm the cancellation of the 2021 Show.

Closing Date Set For Strategic Framework Business Fund Applications

The Scottish Government has just announced that the Strategic Framework Business Fund grant scheme will close to new applicants on 22 March 2021.   The Highland Council has already assessed and approved 5178 applications for this grant fund.

Dingwall & Highland Marts Ltd - Sale of Cattle 17 March 2021

DINGWALL, Dingwall & Highland Marts Ltd., (February, 17th) sold 823 store cattle and 58 OTM cattle.   Bullocks (466) averaged 256.1p, and sold to 311.0p per kg for a pen of 283kg Charolais crosses from Creagmhor, Glenelg and £1,300 twice for a 460kg Limousin cross from Westburn, Thurso and for a pair of 575kg Simmental crosses from Glebe Farm, Kiltarlity.

On Thursday 6 May residents in the Highlands and Western Isles can have their say on who represents them in the Scottish Parliament.   In order to vote in the election, residents must be on the electoral register.

DINGWALL, Dingwall and Highland Marts Ltd, (March, 17th) sold 14 Young Farmers over-wintered cattle at their annual sale, kindly sponsored by Messrs Craiglands Quarry, Fortrose, Conan Vets, Conon Bridge and ABP, Perth.   Bullocks (13) averaged 261.1p and sold to 295.5p per kilo for the 2nd prize homebred bullock a 423kg Limousin cross from Georgia Fraser, Little Croy Farm, Inverness and £1,400 gross for 1st prize homebred bullock a 516kg Limousin cross from Duncan Munro, Invercharron Mains, Ardgay.

Highland Council Encouraging Those Who Have Not Yet Applied For The EU Settlement Scheme To Act Now

Highland Council is encouraging anyone who has not yet applied to join the EU Settlement Scheme to do so as soon as possible before the 30 June deadline.   Latest figures on the EU Settlement Scheme show that there have been 10,140 applications in the Highland Council area up until the end of December 2020.

Closing Date For Taxi Fund - Today 18 March

The Scottish Government has just announced the Taxi and Private Hire Driver Fund will close to new applicants at 5pm on Thursday 18 March 2021.   Highland Council has already approved 457 grants to value of £685,500 and urges all eligible taxi/private hire drivers who have not yet applied to do so immediately.

The government is launching a consultation on wide-ranging reforms to modernise the country's audit and corporate governance regime.   Government consults on plans to break up dominance of "Big Four" audit firms and require large businesses to be more transparent about their finances, helping to avoid company failures and safeguard British jobs.

£25 Million Boost For Nurse Training

Nurses and other healthcare students will benefit from expanded virtual training, and the launch of a new national critical care qualification for qualified nurses.   Up to £15 million for English universities to rapidly expand simulated learning for nursing and other healthcare students this year, providing flexibility during the pandemic.

More Than 25 Million People In The Uk Have Received Their First Dose Of A Covid-19 Vaccine.

Significant milestone reached as almost half of all UK adults in the UK get the vaccine.   95% of people aged 65 and over have been vaccinated with first dose.
