Connecting Scotland - £15 million to help 23,000 more households get online

Around 23,000 low income households without proper internet access will be helped to get online with the assistance of £15 million of Scottish Government funding.   The investment, part of the Connecting Scotland programme, will prioritise disadvantaged families with children and young people leaving care.

New Benefit For Young People Starting Work - Financial help with the cost of a new job

A new benefit to support 16 to 24 year olds into work if they have been unemployed for six months will open for applications on Monday 17 August.   Job Start Payment is a one off £250 payment to help with the costs of starting a new job.

DINGWALL, Dingwall & Highland Marts Ltd., (August, 19th) sold 173 store cattle and 137 adult head of breeding cattle.   Bullocks (89) averaged 223.5p and sold to 256.5p per kg for a 310kg Limousin cross from Corslet Farm, Rosemarkie and £1,300 gross for a 655kg Charolais cross from Milton Farm, Aberarder.

Consumer And Producer Price Inflation, UK: July 2020

Commenting on today's inflation figures for July, ONS Deputy National Statistician for Economic Statistics Jonathan Athow said: "Inflation has risen, in part, due to the largest monthly pump price increase in nearly a decade, as international oil prices rose from their lows earlier this year.   "The largest upward movement came from clothing where prices fell on the month but by less than a year ago, partly due to different sales patterns throughout the year so far.

Monthly GDP Estimates For June - 17.6% below the level in February

Scotland's GDP increased by 5.7% in June, according to statistics announced today by the Chief Statistician.  The growth in the latest month follows an increase of 2.3% in May, and falls of 19.2% in April and 5.8% in March.

£1 Million Funding For Aberdeen Businesses Affected By Temporary Measures

Restrictions on some Aberdeen premises will begin to be lifted from next week if the number of infections continues to fall, the First Minister has confirmed.   Subject to the continued suppression of the virus non-licensed hospitality in the city will be able to open from next Wednesday (26th August).

We're writing to remind you about changes to the Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme (CJRS) from 1‌‌ September and what this means for you.   What you need to do from 1‌‌ September From 1‌‌ September CJRS will pay 70% of usual wages up to a cap of £2,187.50 per month for the hours furloughed employees do not work.

Normand Cutter, The Norwegian-owned Offshore Construction Vessel at Gills

Here is the Normand Cutter, the Norwegian-owned offshore construction vessel that has been the base for works on Simec Atlantis Energy's (SAE's) MeyGen site in the Pentland Firth's Inner Sound, off Gills Bay during the current neap-tide sequence, that has lasted most of the week commencing 11.08.20.   Picture by retired C of S Kirk Minister the Rev Lyall Rennie, who lives at Lower Warse, Canisbay, on the shores of Gills Bay..

Senior posts in Highland Council to go to advert

Advertisements for the recruitment of a Depute Chief Executive and for a replacement Executive Chief Officer Health and Social Care (ECO H&SC) will go to press in two national papers, week commencing 17 August.   The revised structure of the executive team was agreed by full Council on 9 May 2019, including the post of Chief Operating Officer/Depute CEO, with a salary agreed at previous Director level.

A new online resource is being made available to help support people experiencing, or at risk of, domestic abuse.   For professionals in the housing, social work, health, education and other sectors with an interest in the new domestic abuse legislation, the resource aims to improve understanding of coercive controlling behaviours, and where to direct people for further assistance.

High Life Highland Is Bouncing Back

In a report being presented to The Highland Council's Recovery Board on 24th August, Steve Walsh, High Life Highland's Chief Executive, has outlined the charity's road to financial recovery thanks to its bounceback campaign.   Mr Walsh explained, "It now seems like an over-used phrase, but when the pandemic hit in March it was clear that High Life Highland, along with every other organisation was facing unprecedented challenges.

SQA Results In Highland - 5000 increases in grade across all schools

On Tuesday 11 August 2020, Deputy First Minister, John Swinney, announced in the Scottish Parliament a change to the way that SQA results would be decided.   In some cases, the moderation process carried out by the SQA during July and August had meant that candidates might be awarded a lower or higher grade than their teacher had estimated.

Over £15m of capital investment to improve Highland housing stock

Members of The Highland Council's Housing and Property Committee have agreed a one-year capital investment plan of £15.667 million to be spent improving existing housing stock - £1 million of which will be specifically to fund aids and adaptations for disabled tenants.   The money will be allocated on an area-by-area basis with local members making decisions on projects to be carried out during 2021-2022.
