Scottish Teachers Reject Latest Pay Offer

At the meeting of the Scottish Negotiating Committee for Teachers (SNCT) Teachers' Side on 25 February 2019, it was announced that EIS had balloted its members and, with an 81% turnout, 57% voted to reject the latest pay offer and 43% to accept.  AHDS and SSTA had also balloted their memberships, which had both voted to accept the offer.

Convention Of Highlands And Islands in Orkney Monday 4 March 2019

Ministers will be on Orkney to discuss the impact of Brexit on the highlands and islands, at the latest Convention of Highlands and Islands (CoHI).   Transport and the marine economy will also be among the main topics of discussion in Kirkwall on Monday, when Scottish Government Ministers meet with council representatives and stakeholders.

Support For Venezuelan Migrants In Colombia

Funding to support refugees displaced from Venezuela has been announced by International Development Minister Ben Macpherson.   It has been confirmed that £220,000 will be made available from the Scottish Government Humanitarian Emergency Fund (HEF).

New Scheme To Support Town Centres

A £50 million fund to help boost town centres has been launched.   The Town Centre Fund, which has been set up in partnership with COSLA, is supporting councils to ensure their high streets are more diverse, sustainable and successful in the face of changing and evolving retail patterns.

Dounreay Communities Fund - Closing Dates For Applications In 2019

The fund is provided by the Nuclear Decommissioning Authority and administered by Dounreay in association with the Dounreay Stakeholder Group.   Community organisations or charities that benefit people in Caithness and North Sutherland may be eligible for assistance from the Dounreay Communities Fund.

The first blocks of concrete have been removed from the top of one of the world's most recognisable chimneys.   This marks the start of the demolition of Sellafield's Windscale Pile One stack.

2019/2020 Council Tax In Highland Rates and Reductions

At the meeting of The Highland Council on 14 February 2019 it was agreed to increase Council Tax by 3% from 1 April 2019.  Council Tax bills for 2019/2020 will be issued over the coming weeks.

Millions Of Nuisance PPI Calls Lands Director With 8-year Ban

Carmarthen director has been banned for eight years after causing two companies to make almost 221 million unsolicited nuisance PPI phone calls.   Richard Jones (31), from Carmarthen, Wales, was the director of Miss-Sold Products UK Limited and Your Money Rights Limited, the two companies at the centre of investigations by the ICO and the Insolvency Service.

Highland Council In Talks To Reopen Caithness Horizons

Talks have taken place on the possibility of reopening Thurso's Caithness Horizons which closed last week due to financial problems.   The operators of the museum and art gallery said increasing running costs and reduced income had made the running of the site "unsustainable".

New Keep Safe Locations In The Highlands

Police Scotland and the I Am Me charity have welcomed new members to the network of Highland premises which have agreed to make their premises a Keep Safe place for people to go if they feel frightened, distressed or have been the victim of crime.   Nairn Citizens Advice Bureau and the Co-ops in Golspie and Brora have joined the initiative, which is delivered in partnership between I Am Me and Police Scotland.

NHS Highland Medical Director Stepping Down

NHS Highland announced today that Dr Rod Harvey has decided to step down from his position of Board Medical Director and take retirement with effect from the 31st August 2019.   By the time of his retirement he will have worked continuously in the NHS for thirty seven years, but nevertheless intends to return to a period of frontline clinical care as a consultant physician before stopping work altogether.
