Millions Of Nuisance PPI Calls Lands Director With 8-year Ban

Carmarthen director has been banned for eight years after causing two companies to make almost 221 million unsolicited nuisance PPI phone calls.   Richard Jones (31), from Carmarthen, Wales, was the director of Miss-Sold Products UK Limited and Your Money Rights Limited, the two companies at the centre of investigations by the ICO and the Insolvency Service.

Highland Council In Talks To Reopen Caithness Horizons

Talks have taken place on the possibility of reopening Thurso's Caithness Horizons which closed last week due to financial problems.   The operators of the museum and art gallery said increasing running costs and reduced income had made the running of the site "unsustainable".

New Keep Safe Locations In The Highlands

Police Scotland and the I Am Me charity have welcomed new members to the network of Highland premises which have agreed to make their premises a Keep Safe place for people to go if they feel frightened, distressed or have been the victim of crime.   Nairn Citizens Advice Bureau and the Co-ops in Golspie and Brora have joined the initiative, which is delivered in partnership between I Am Me and Police Scotland.

NHS Highland Medical Director Stepping Down

NHS Highland announced today that Dr Rod Harvey has decided to step down from his position of Board Medical Director and take retirement with effect from the 31st August 2019.   By the time of his retirement he will have worked continuously in the NHS for thirty seven years, but nevertheless intends to return to a period of frontline clinical care as a consultant physician before stopping work altogether.

DINGWALL, Dingwall & Highland Marts, (February, 28th) sold 2,516 sheep of all classes.   Lambs (1,449) averaged £54.49 and sold to £80 gross twice for pens of Texel crosses from Wester Moy, Urray and 134 West Langwell, Rogart.

Legislation to support the establishment and capitalisation of the Scottish National Investment Bank has been published by the Scottish Parliament.   The Bill grants the necessary powers to set up the Bank which will provide financing for businesses through their whole life cycle and for important infrastructure projects to catalyse private sector investment.

NHS Highland Chairman David Alston Resigns

Widely reported today that the chairman of NHS Highland has resigned just weeks after the Chief Executive Elaine Mead resigned.   Scottish Labour's Shadow Health Minister, and Highlands and Islands MSP, David Stewart, said: "While I wish David Alston all the best, the appointment of well-respected Boyd Robertson heralds a new chapter for NHS Highland which has not had its troubles to seek in the past few years.

Scotland To Suffer Under UK Immigration Proposals

The UK Government's immigration plans could reduce the number of workers in Scotland by up to five per cent over the next two decades, an expert panel has warned.   That is in contrast to the rest of the UK, where the working age population will grow even as UK policy changes cut the number of migrant workers, according to analysis by a panel advising the Scottish Government.

£11m funding boost to support ‘innovation revolution' in Scottish construction sector

More than 1,800 new construction jobs are expected to be created after the Construction Scotland Innovation Centre (CSIC) received almost £11 million of core funding to support the sector to innovate, modernise and grow.   The investment from the Scottish Funding Council, Scottish Enterprise and Highlands and Islands Enterprise will allow CSIC to build on the foundations of a highly successful first five years and support its Phase 2 mission to mainstream innovation in construction, leading to improved productivity and growth within the sector.
