£1m Boost For Aquaculture Supply Chain Innovation

A £1 million pilot programme to boost innovation in aquaculture in the Highlands and Islands is set to go ahead.  Highlands and Islands Enterprise (HIE) has approved the funding package and will run the programme in conjunction with the Scottish Aquaculture Innovation Centre (SAIC).

Highland Council 2017 Election Called

The 2017 Highland Council election has been officially called today (Monday 13 March) with the Returning Officer seeking nominations from candidates wishing to stand in the local government elections which take place on Thursday 4 May.   A total of 74 Councillors will be appointed to represent the Council in 21 electoral wards, each with three or four elected members.

There Is Little Direct Monitoring Of Home Care Services By Councils, Says Unison Report

Direct contract monitoring of service users is very limited and very few visits are made to check service users are receiving contracted levels of care, according to a report published today (Monday) by UNISON Scotland at a Community Sector Conference in Glasgow.   UNISON are calling for monitoring arrangements to be adequately staffed and include site visits to service users.

Caithness And North Sutherland Regeneration Partnership Update

Week Commencing 6 March 2017 Energy & business services: Atlantis Resources Ltd has this week announced that Phase 1A of the MeyGen project has been awarded full accreditation by Ofgem.  Phase 1A is now an accredited 6MW tidal stream generating station and will receive 5 ROCS/MWh.

HIE Report Highlights Extent Of Occupational Segregation In The Region

Highlands and Islands Enterprise (HIE) is encouraging employers across the region to promote the benefits of a gender balance workforce.   The move follows the publication this week of a report entitled ‘Occupational Segregation in the Highlands and Islands' commissioned by the agency.

Wipro staff to be based in city centre office

Wipro has opened a new delivery centre in Inverness as part of our growth plan and service delivery for the Highland Council.   40 to 50 staff will be based at Moray House in the city centre.

Council agrees Redesign Board recommendations

The Highland Council has agreed all the recommendations made by the Redesign Board.   The Board proposes a significant shift to localism.

Extra £1million capital for Highland roads

On Thursday 9th March, the Council approved £1million additional capital monies to be spent on Highland roads.   The Scottish Government, announced on 2 February 2017, an additional Capital Grant for Highland Council of £2.046m for 2017/18 and members have agreed to allocate £1million of this to roads.

Highland Council funding to CAB Projects

The Highland Council has agreed to extend funding to two CAB projects of up to £50,000.   The Mental Health and Midwifery projects provide money and welfare advice to pregnant mums and those experiencing mental ill health.

Major Expansion at Caithness Distillery

A Caithness distillery has embarked on a major expansion that will boost its turnover and international sales and create at least one new job.   Dunnet Bay Distillery (DBDL) has secured a £64,000 contribution from Highlands and Islands Enterprise (HIE) towards the £248,000 development.

DINGWALL, Dingwall & Highland Marts Ltd., (March, 7th) sold 11 prime cattle.   Prime heifers (11) averaged 211.6p (+2.6p) and sold to 221p per kg and £1,262.70 gross.

Fisheries Protection Seafarers To Ballot For Fair Pay

Members of Unite the union working for Scotland's fisheries protection fleet are to ballot in an ongoing battle over pay.   The workers at Marine Scotland are angry that they are being paid less than other seafarers working for the Scottish Government.

New West Link Bridge Spans The River In Inverness

The first of the central beams to connect the north and south side of the West Link bridge, Inverness were put in place today, 6 March 2017.   The centre span beams are 70m in length and weight 70 tonnes each.
