Average Savings Rates At Highest Levels Since 2008

Moneyfacts UK Savings Trends Treasury Report data shows average fixed bond and ISA rates, for one-year and longer-term fixed, all now stand above 5% for the first time in almost 15 years.  Average savings rates across easy access, notice and ISA equivalents now stand at levels not seen since 2008.

Regulator Publishes New Guidance On Charities' Social Media Use

The Charity Commission for england and Wales has issued new guidance on charities' use of social media.   Published today (18th September 2023), the guidance makes clear that social media can be a highly effective way for a charity to engage its audiences and communicate about its work but that there are risks involved, which trustees should plan for.

Supporting Unpaid Carers - New Scottish Benefit To Be Piloted In Three Areas

Carer Support Payment will open for applications in pilot areas from November 2023, subject to parliamentary approval of regulations setting out rules and eligibility.   Adults living in Perth and Kinross, Dundee City and Na h-Eileanan an Iar, will be the first to be able to apply ahead of phased national rollout from Spring 2024.

New Resources Released To Support The Health Of Small Business' Workforce

Small and medium-sized businesses have access to new tools to enhance employee well-being at work.   The resources, a video and guide, have been developed by the Society of Occupational Medicine (SOM) and the Commercial Occupational Health Providers Association (COHPA) to coincide with Occupational Health Awareness Week (OHAW) 2023 (18th-24th September 2023).

Geological Disposal Facility Programme Progresses As Aerial Surveys Commence

Data from aerial, and other environmental surveys will help Nuclear Waste Services understand an area's suitability to host a Geological Disposal Facility (GDF).   Nuclear Waste Services (NWS) will begin marine aerial surveys in Mid and South Copeland, and Theddlethorpe once a month during daylight hours, from October to March 2024.

Number Of Homeowners And Landlords Falling Into Mortgage Arrears Small But Increasing

UK Finance said higher rates and the cost of living were continuing to weigh on households - but said overall numbers remained low.   Residential mortgage arrears have risen by 7% and buy-to-let arrears up 28% in Q2.

Industry and consumer groups are invited to offer views on increasing the amount of hydrogen used in the UK's gas network.   Industry and consumer groups to offer views on new hydrogen technology following consultation, hydrogen blended into current gas networks could increase by up to 20% forms part of government efforts to grow the economy and support the future hydrogen market The government has, today (Friday 15 September), invited views from industry and consumer groups on increasing the amount of hydrogen used in the UK's gas network to fuel homes and businesses, in a move to help cut emissions, strengthen energy security and create new skilled jobs.
