Fire Station Testing Expanded After Success At Thurso And Lochgilphead
More convenient access to testing in remote and rural areas.   Access to coronavirus (COVID-19) testing will be expanded to 21 fire stations in rural areas of Scotland, following the success of a trials in Thurso and Lochgilphead.

Vaccine programme exceeds expectations
A total of 786,427 people have now received their first Coronavirus (COVID-19) vaccination in Scotland, including 93% of over-80s living in the community.   Some 99% of older adult care home residents have received a first dose, along with 89% of staff in older adult care homes.

£2.5 Million Emergency Funding For Zoos And Aquariums

In the North Sea, oil companies are releasing the equivalent of a coal power station's worth of greenhouse gases into the atmosphere every year by burning off or dumping unwanted natural gas into the atmosphere.   While our North Sea neighbours Norway banned unnecessary flaring in 1972, the UK has no such ban - the rate of flaring on the UK continental shelf is therefore a shocking 11 times higher than in Norway and twice the North Sea average.

HMRC advice received on treatment of NHS Highland Healing Process payments
This could have been sorted out so easily in advance.   NHS Highland welcomes the decision from HMRC that the majority of participants in the Healing Process will not have to pay tax or national insurance on payments received because most will be made due to harm suffered, not loss of earnings whilst in employment.

Government Confirms Mandatory Hotel Quarantine To Be Introduced From 15 February
From 15 February anyone travelling to the UK from a country on the UK's travel ban list will be required to quarantine in a government-approved facility for 10 days.   Managed Quarantine Facilities to come into effect from 15 February.

Contractor GMR Henderson appointed for Caithness General Hospital New Maternity Unit
NHS Highland is delighted to announce that local Caithness firm GMR Henderson has been awarded the construction contract to refurbish the Queen Elizabeth West Wing at Caithness General Hospital to create a new Community Midwifery Unit.   The new facility will have its own independent entrance and will include a birthing unit, outpatient clinic rooms and scanning room, providing a one-stop shop for women and their babies for antenatal, intrapartum and postnatal care.

Scottish Government Offers 4 Year Funding To Bring Back Flights To Wick John OGroats Airport
Chair of Chair, Economy and Infrastructure Committee comments on Scottish Government's funding for Wick John O'Groats Airport Following representations made by The Highland Council, the Scottish Government has proposed that up to £4 million will be made available to the Council over the next four financial years to bring back scheduled services at Wick John O'Groats Airport.   The Scottish Government have suggested that the Council be the lead partner in setting the specification for the services to be provided in consultation with local communities and businesses.

The Bank of England's Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) sets monetary policy to meet the 2% inflation target, and in a way that helps to sustain growth and employment.  At its meeting ending on 3 February 2021, the Committee judged that the existing stance of monetary policy remains appropriate.
