There has been a steady stream of popular literature in recent years telling women to "lean in", be more confident, and not worry about "imposter syndrome".   Men, on the other hand, are often seen to be overconfident compared to women.

Change To Pre-2012 Income Contingent (ICR) Student Loans Interest Rate

The Department for Education (DfE) has announced a change to the pre-2012 income contingent (ICR) student loans interest rate.   Pre-2012 income contingent (ICR) student loans ("Plan 1 loans") have an interest rate of either RPI (from the March prior to the September when the new interest rates are implemented) or the Bank Base Rate + 1%, whichever is the lower (this is known as the “low interest cap”).

CloudNC to supply precision components for nuclear fusion - new agreement with the UK Atomic Energy Authority

CloudNC will supply UKAEA with components that support the manufacture of diagnostic windows used in fusion energy.   It's the first time that CloudNC has manufactured components for the fusion industry.

Msp Calls For Rethink On Postponement Of Naver Bridge Replacement

Highlands and Islands Labour MSP, Rhoda Grant, has called on Highland Council to rethink the recent decision to defer the replacement of the 140 year old Naver Bridge in north Sutherland.   Mrs Grant has been contacted about the concerns locally surrounding the safety of the current bridge with additional fears that if it is allowed to deteriorate further, any potential closure would adversely affect communities who would face using an alternative route which would be both time consuming and costly for local residents.

Changes To Deposit Return Scheme

Craft drinks producers and pubs that provide off-sales are among those that will benefit from changes to Scotland's deposit return scheme.   Circular Economy Minister Lorna Slater has announced a range of measures to make it easier for drinks producers and retailers to prepare for the scheme, while making sure environmental benefits are still delivered, and repeated the call on the UK Government to issue an exclusion for the scheme from the Internal Market Act.

Government Urges Public To Check Their Photo Identification Ahead Of Polls

The UK government is making it necessary to produce photo ID to be able to cast a vote in elections.   This is apparently to counter voter fraud even though there is little evidence of voter fraud in the UK.

Consumer Price Inflation UK March 2023 Rate 10.1% But Food 19.2% Highest Increase For 45 Years

The Consumer Prices Index including owner occupiers' housing costs (CPIH) rose by 8.9% in the 12 months to March 2023, down from 9.2% in February.   The largest upward contributions to the annual CPIH inflation rate in March 2023 came from housing and household services (principally from electricity, gas and other fuels), and food and non-alcoholic beverages.

Producer Price Inflation UK March 2023 Including Services January To March 2023

Producer input prices rose by 7.6% in the year to March 2023, down from 12.8% in the year to February 2023.   Producer output (factory gate) prices rose by 8.7% in the year to March 2023, down from 11.9% in the year to February 2023.

New Natural Heritage Facility Opens Near Loch Ness

The world's first rewilding centre has been opened in the Highlands that will help more people experience forest restoration, the natural environment and Gaelic culture.   The Rewilding Centre is located at Dundreggan Estate, Invermoriston by conservation, education and research charity, Trees for Life.

HRH The Princess Royal Opens Thomas Telford Corpach Marina Fort William

HRH The Princess Royal, accompanied by Lord Lieutenant James Wotherspoon officially opened the Thomas Telford Corpach Marina, Fort William on Tuesday 18 April 2023.   As part of HRH visit, The Princess Royal toured the new state of the art marina facilities and unveiled the plaque.

First Minister Lays Out His Plans But Have We Heard It Before

First Minister Humza Yousaf has published a new policy prospectus, setting out how the government will deliver for Scotland over the next three years.   In his first major statement to Parliament, the First Minister said three missions, centred on the themes of equality, opportunity and community, will be central to his government.
