Signage For Roll-out Of 20mph Programme Across The Highlands Starts To Be Installed

The Highland Council are pleased to announce that between now and the end of July local communities will notice new 20mph speed limit signage being installed replacing, where relevant, the existing 30mph signage.

Councillor Ken Gowans, Chair of the Council Economy and Infrastructure Committee said: "I am delighted so see the signage for this 20mph programme now appearing in our communities. This investment in the Highland area is being fully funded by Transport Scotland who have chosen Highland Council as an early adopter of the programme which is part of the National strategy to improve safety on our roads."

"The signage contract was awarded to Ansco Signs, and they are at present manufacturing and delivering the new signage to various Council depots around Highland. This positive investment in a local company ensures the work remains within the Highland area with one of our local suppliers."

123 settlements across the Highlands are part of the 20mph implementation project. Due to the scale and complexity of such a massive programme of signage installation it will take a couple of months for all signage to be installed.

This week installation has begun in Ross and Cromarty with Torridon and the Seaboard villages in Easter Ross amongst the first settlements to see the installation of their signage.

It is intended that the required Temporary Traffic Regulation Order will "Go Live" at the end of July at a date still to be confirmed. At this point the 20 mph limits will become enforceable.
