Highland Council Welcomes Land Use Partnership Pilots In Region

The Highland Council's Chair of Economy and Infrastructure Committee and Chair of Climate Change Working Group, Cllr Trish Robertson has welcomed the Scottish Government’s recent announcement that the Highland Council area will be 1 of 5 areas being piloted as Regional Land Use Partnerships to help develop an approach to land use in support of Scotland’s green recovery and transition to net-zero.   A Scottish Government announcement said that they "...will work with the pilot groups to test approaches to partnership governance that best suit the local situation and priorities.

On Thursday 6 May 2021 residents in Highland and Western Isles will go to the polls to have their say on who represents them in the Scottish Parliament.   While the election is not until May, planning is already underway to help you stay safe while casting your vote.

First Minister Questioned On Support For Marine Tourism Businesses

Highlands and Islands Labour MSP, Rhoda Grant, today (10.02.2021) appealed to the First Minister to put help in place for marine tourism businesses who have received no financial assistance to mitigate the effects of the ongoing Covid-19 restrictions.   During First Minister's Questions, Mrs Grant said "The First Minister is aware that businesses have received lifeline assistance based on their rateable value.

Highland families set to benefit from Connecting Scotland scheme with imminent arrival of new technology

Highland Council is expecting delivery of 617 tablets and laptops this week through the Connecting Scotland scheme.   This is excellent news which will ensure our most vulnerable children, young people and families are not digitally excluded.

Highland families start to see benefits of financial inclusion initiative

Families have started to benefit from a 2019 financial inclusion initiative run by Highland Council's Health Visiting Service and Welfare Team.   In 2019, the team was invited to join other organisations from across Scotland to be involved in a national financial inclusion improvement project to address the high level of unclaimed benefits by families with young children.

One Million People Vaccinated In Scotland

More than one million people at greatest risk from Coronavirus (COVID-19) in Scotland have had their first dose of the vaccine.   The landmark of one million was reached on Wednesday 10 February.

Temporary road closure - B874 Bridge Street, Halkirk

Motorists are being advised by The Highland Council that there will be a temporary road closure on the B874 Bridge Street, Halkirk on Wednesday 10 February 2021 between the hours of 9:00 until 17:00.   The closure is required to create a safe working area for iron work repairs.

15 Further Call Handling Jobs For Police Centre In Inverness

Cllr Matthew Reiss, Highland Council's Strategic Lead for Police and Fire has welcomed Police Scotland's announcement that it has created fifteen new posts to further enhance the development of call handling services, based in Inverness.   He said: "We were delighted in October last year to welcome 25 new jobs in Inverness with the creation of a specialist call handling service team and these fifteen additional new posts based in the Highlands are great news.

£4.5m Investment In Argyll Development

More than £4.5m is to be invested in expanding the marine enterprise cluster in Argyll, in a move that is expected to create more than 30 well-paid jobs.   HIE has approved the funding for two new stages in its development of the European Marine Science Park (EMSP) at Dunstaffnage near Oban.

Question - Did Brexit voters understand any of this before voting? Environment Secretary George Eustice answered an urgent question in the House of Commons about the EU's restrictions on the trade in live bivalve molluscs.   We have a long-standing trade in live bivalve molluscs to the EU from UK waters.

822 new cases of COVID-19 reported.   13,184 new tests for COVID-19 that reported results - 7.2% of these were positive.

Another 27 young business leaders from around the Highlands and Islands have become the latest to take part in a year-long programme aimed at developing the next generation of entrepreneurs.   IMPACT30 is a fully funded business growth programme, offering bespoke support from industry specialists.

Increased Support For Childminders - Grants of £750 to all registered childminders

Grants of £750 are being paid to all registered childminders in Scotland in order to secure the sustainability of their businesses.   Funding of more than £3.2 million has been made available to ensure that all childminders registered with the Care Inspectorate will receive the flat-rate payment.
