UK Export Finance supports financing deal which will secure UK contracts for cable protection systems and the charter of an installation vessel.   UK Export Finance (UKEF) has, along with other export credit agencies, supported a financing deal for a Taiwanese offshore wind farm which will generate major UK contracts.

Pubgoers Given Choice To Prove Age With Phones Next Year In Boost For High Street And Hospitality Sectors

People will be able to use digital ID's on their phones to verify their age when purchasing alcohol in pubs, clubs, and shops from next year.   From next year, people can choose to use digital identities on their phones to prove their age when buying alcohol in high street pubs, clubs and shops - allowing landlords to serve pints more easily and reducing hassle in grocery queues.

Economic Slowdown Is Reducing Employment, But Isn't Yet Affecting Workers' Pay Packets

The UK's jobs market continues to cool amidst a wider economic slowdown, but pay growth remains resilient, the Resolution Foundation said today.   The Foundation’s analysis using the latest HMRC admin data suggest that the 16+ employment rate has fallen to 61.1 per cent, down from 61.7 per cent in early 2023.

Petrol And Rents Drive Disappointing Inflation Rise

CPI inflation increased to 2.6 per cent in November - higher than the Bank of England had expected – highlighting the challenge Britain faces in getting inflation back down to its target.   The rise was driven by petrol prices, which fell by less over the past year in November than they did in October and have increased over the past month, and rising rents.

Home Ownership Is Rising For Young Millennials - But The Divide Between Rich And Poor Is Widening

Youth home ownership rates have risen since the mid-2010s trough to leave younger millennials with greater home ownership rates at age 25 than older millennials had at that age.  But with middle- and higher-income households gaining the most in recent years, the property divide between rich and poor young people is widening, according to new research from the Resolution Foundation published today (Friday).

West Coast Sand Mine Steps Up Production

A sand mining company in Lochaber is set to double its production and increase annual turnover by more than £2.6m.   Lochaline Quartz Sand Limited (LQS) has secured up to £230,000 investment from Highlands and Islands Enterprise (HIE) towards the £855,000 costs of upgrading equipment on site.
