Police Scotland Urged To Review Its Commitment To Road Policing

A reduction in police activity targeting the most common causes of fatal crashes has been identified as a key factor affecting Police Scotland's ability to keep people safe on the nation's roads.   A new report by His Majesty's Inspectorate of Constabulary in Scotland notes that since 2020 the total number of people killed or injured on Scotland’s roads has increased each year.

NDA Supply Chain Award Winners 2024 Revealed

The Nuclear Decommissioning Authority group have announced five organisations as winners of this year's supply chain awards.   Morgan Sindall Infrastructure, The Decommissioning Delivery Partnership, PA Consulting, Antech and The Higher Activity Waste Thermal Treatment Tranche 1 Team are the big winners in this year's supply chain awards.

My Experience On The Commissioning Graduate Programme At Sellafield Ltd

With a degree in electrical and electronic engineering and a keen interest in the nuclear sector, Anouschka knew Sellafield would be the best place for her to begin her career in the industry.   That career has already seen her relocate from Sheffield to Cumbria and scooping the title of Sellafield Ltd Graduate of the Year.

NDA Group Investing In Our Communities

The Nuclear Decommissioning Authority (NDA) group has on 26 September 2024 published its 2023 to 2024 socio-economic report detailing a record investment in projects across the UK.   Over the last five years, the NDA group has invested £60 million in projects that enable permanent and sustainable change in its site communities, leveraging many millions more from partners.

What Is Thorp? - Thermal Oxide Reprocessing Plant

Today, the ponds inside the Thermal Oxide Reprocessing Plant (or as we like to call it, Thorp) are used to store nuclear fuel that has been used in the UK's 7 operational nuclear reactors.   Before taking on this new mission, Thorp reprocessed 9,000 tonnes of used nuclear fuel from around the world, generating an estimated £9 billion in revenue for the UK over 2 decades.

Record Numbers Join The NDA Group Graduate Programme

Over 100 graduates join the Nuclear Decommissioning Authority group today as applications open for 2025.   As applications open for 2025, the Nuclear Decommissioning Authority (NDA) group also welcomed its largest ever cohort of graduates today, with more than 100 new recruits ready to support delivery of one of the world's most important environmental programmes.

NDA Announces Multi-million Phd Bursary Commitment At Summit

At the Nuclear Decommissioning Authority biannual stakeholder summit, CEO David Peattie announced up to £5 million over five years to support around 20 PhDs.   On the 17th and 18th of September the Nuclear Decommissioning Authority (NDA) hosted its biannual in person stakeholder summit, bringing together over 170 delegates from national and local government, the nuclear sector and site communities.

Hundreds Of New Starters Begin Their Careers At Sellafield

This year's cohort of apprentices and graduates will help drive forward work at the UK's largest and most complex nuclear site.   Up to 300 vocational and degree apprentices and 150 graduates are expected to join Sellafield Ltd in this year's intake.

A repeating tone - blip, blip, blip - is the audible reminder that we are in one of the most hazardous nuclear sites in the world: Sellafield.   That sound - pulsing from speakers inside the cavernous fuel-handling plant - is a signal that everything is functioning as it should.

A836 In Caithness - Average Speed Cameras Go Live Today Monday 2nd September

Police Scotland's North Safety Camera Unit are now operating average speed cameras on the A836 between Reay and Thurso with offences being progressed from Monday 2nd September.   In partnership with the Scottish Safety Camera Programme and the Highland Council, the location was identified as having speed concerns and increased traffic volumes, both of which are potential ongoing road safety challenges.

NDA Group Establishes Innovative Partnership To Manage Asbestos Waste At Legacy Nuclear Sites

The Nuclear Decommissioning Authority (NDA), in collaboration with its subsidiary Nuclear Waste Services (NWS), has awarded two contracts to establish an innovative partnership for the enhanced management of asbestos waste.   The Asbestos Innovation Partnership (AIP) will work with the NDA, NWS and the supply chain, to test and develop new solutions to treat asbestos waste, helping to deliver efficiencies and enable more effective waste management.
