Scotland's Economic and Fiscal Forecasts - May 2025

North of Scotland Councils announce multi-million-pound EV charging infrastructure partnership

Highland, Aberdeen City, Aberdeenshire and Moray Councils are today announcing that EasyGo has been awarded a 20-year contract to provide EV charging infrastructure for the north of Scotland.  The contract is estimated to be worth £300 million, with Highland Council acting as the lead authority.

Highland Council agrees environmental scheme endorsement for major developers

Members of Highland Council's Economy and Infrastructure Committee have today agreed to the principle of the Council endorsing proposed environmental scheme sites in advance for new infrastructure projects.   Economy and Infrastructure Committee Chair, Councillor Ken Gowans said: "Developers delivering major infrastructure projects often find it challenging to quickly secure sufficient land for their environmental scheme obligations.

Agricultural industry in Scotland profit recovers in 2024

The Chief Statistician has released 2024 figures on total income from farming, the official measure of the profit (output minus costs) of the agricultural industry in Scotland.   These initial estimates predict a strong recovery of agricultural industry profit from its 5-year low in 2023.

UKAEA and Space Solar have collaborated on a robotics demonstration unit to pave the way for space-based data centres, solar farms and other megastructures.   A collaboration between the United Kingdom Atomic Energy Authority (UKAEA), the UK's national organisation responsible for the research and delivery of sustainable fusion energy, and space-tech innovator, Space Solar, has shown that robotic technology could build infrastructure in space without human intervention.

‘Highly deceptive' fraudster secured Covid loan funds under his wife's name and claimed innocent member of the public was his boss

Bounce Back Loan fraudster also produced false invoice to liquidator.   Shohid Ahmed applied for three Bounce Back Loans using his wife's name, receiving £100,000 his Indian restaurant was not entitled to.
