Highland Visitor Levy Scheme Consultation Period Extended

In November, The Highland Council launched a public statutory consultation to seek views on the proposed introduction of a Visitor Levy scheme across the Highlands.   The Council has announced an extension to this consultation period, which will now give businesses, visitors and communities until 31 March 2025, an additional seven weeks, to take part and have their say.

The Government's Industrial Strategy Green Paper has a welcome focus on leveraging Britain's economic strengths - as an exporter of services, a European leader for defence, and a strong university-led research base - and identifies a sensible set of clusters and growth industries.   But to focus on these, the strategy will need to pass over other sectors, and the Government must acknowledge the trade-offs this involves for areas that lack economic firepower, the Resolution Foundation said today (Monday).

UK Space Agency - Sentinel-1c - New Radar Satellite Launched Into Space

A new radar satellite supported by the UK was launched into space from French Guiana at 9:20pm GMT on Thursday 5 December.   The Sentinel-1C satellite launched on a VEGA-C rocket and will orbit 700km above the Earth's surface.

Investing In Affordable Housing In Scotland

Housing Minister Paul McLennan visited an affordable housing development in East Lothian to highlight plans in the draft Budget for next year to increase funding for the Affordable Housing Supply Programme.   The investment could see the total budget for delivering affordable homes rise to £768 million in 2025-26 - an increase of more than £200 million compared to this year's published budget.
