Community Groups Receive Scottish Land Fund - Funding Awards

A community group in the Scottish Borders has been given £595,500 by the Scottish Land Fund to buy an area of land in their village.  Broughtonknowe Community Woodland Ltd will purchase 55.85 ha of woodland in Broughton in order to continue using it as an amenity green space and to increase biodiversity on the site.

Investing In Affordable Housing In Scotland

Housing Minister Paul McLennan visited an affordable housing development in East Lothian to highlight plans in the draft Budget for next year to increase funding for the Affordable Housing Supply Programme.   The investment could see the total budget for delivering affordable homes rise to £768 million in 2025-26 - an increase of more than £200 million compared to this year's published budget.

Tackling High Housing Costs Must Be A Core Element Of The Government's Strategy To Reduce Child Poverty

More than one in four children (27 per cent - 1.1 million in total) in poverty would not have been living below the poverty line in recent years (2022-23) were it not for high housing costs - a sign the Government must prioritise tackling housing unaffordability in its upcoming Child Poverty Strategy, says new Resolution Foundation research published on Saturday 7 December 2024.   The Foundation's Housing Outlook Q4 2024 reveals that high housing costs are felt most acutely by those living in the private rented sector (PRS).

Additional Funding For Short Breaks Fund

An additional 15,000 unpaid carers will be supported to take short breaks away from their caring responsibilities as a result of a £5 million boost to the Voluntary Sector Short Breaks Fund.   The extra funding, set out in the draft Budget, brings the total investment to £13 million for 2025-26.
