Blargoans Ltd have an opportunity for a Health Physics Support to work within our client’s facility in Caithness on a fixed term maternity cover until at least June 2027.
The purpose of the post is to play a key role in maintaining and strengthening radiological protection standards at NRS Dounreay, offering a unique chance to contribute to a critical function supporting safe and compliant site operations.
What you’ll be doing: You will work closely with the SSHEQ & Radiation Protection Manager, supporting the integrity and performance of health physics services through robust quality assurance and technical oversight. Your contribution will be pivotal in ensuring high standards are maintained across site operations by:
Supporting competence assessments and approvals for RPM Surveyors acting as an intelligent customer in partnership with the health physics authority.
Driving quality by undertaking checks on monitoring services and continually improving on radiological protection instructions and standards.
Delivering training and carrying out health physics assessments which includes operational monitoring and approvals
Ensuring effectiveness of dosimetry services and contributing to key deliverables within the NRS Dounreay plan.

The ideal candidate will demonstrate:
Recognized health physics qualification such as: Stage 1 C&G Radiation Practice, NVQ Level 2 in Radiation Protection or equivalent) alongside nuclear experience
Solid educational foundation such as a HNC in Science/Engineering or equivalent practical experience
Strong Verbal and written communication skills with experience in Microsoft Office Tools.
Excellent planning and organisational skills with the motivation and ability to manage priorities and deliver with minimal supervision
Terms and Conditions
Basic Annual Income – £38,354 to £59,998 pro rata, overtime rates apply as standard.
Working Hours – 37.9 hours per week, Monday to Friday, with every third Friday as a non-working day.
Annual Holiday Entitlement – 25 days annual leave, 8 public holidays, 2.5 privilege holidays pro rata
Contract Duration – Fixed term
Security Clearance – The successful candidate will be required to undergo security clearance checks.
