Highland Council to deliver housing energy efficiency upgrades with ECO funding

The Highland Council will deliver a transformative programme of energy efficiency upgrades across Council housing supported by a £9.2 million Energy Company Obligation (ECO) funding proposal secured by Union Technical.   The funding proposal will deliver approximately 1,000 individual energy efficiency measures to Council owned properties across the Highlands.

Scotland's Chief Statistician today released Recorded Crime in Scotland, 2024-25.   Between 2023-24 and 2024-25: There was little change in crimes recorded by the police in Scotland, decreasing by less than 1%, from 299,790 to 299,111.

Flexible energy pricing could save households £200 a year by 2040, but policy needs to head off risks for lower-income families

Moving away from the Ofgem fixed price cap and towards a flexible system of energy pricing - where costs vary according to region and time of day – could reduce the price of electricity by 4p/kWh by 2040, offering households savings of £200 a year, on average.  But this approach also means families taking on more price risk, according to new Resolution Foundation research published today (Tuesday24 June 2025).

Local Government 2024-25 Provisional Outturn and 2025-26 Budget Estimates

The Chief Statistician has released figures on 2024-25 provisional outturn and 2025-26 budget estimates for revenue and capital expenditure on services provided by local authorities.   In 2024-25, net revenue expenditure on local authority services was provisionally reported as £15,760 million in 2024-25 and budgeted as £16,239 million for 2025-26.

Free school meals expansion

More than 6,000 high school pupils will be eligible for free school meals from the beginning of the next school year, further supporting the Scottish Government's national mission to eradicate child poverty.   This trial phase of the free school meals programme will see S1 to S3 pupils in receipt of the Scottish Child Payment, who attend selected schools in eight local authority areas, receive a nutritious and healthy meal.

Direct support for Dundee University As The Taxpayer Picks Up A Big Tab
