Support for people in priority groups to buy a house - Home ownership scheme reopens

A scheme to help people in priority groups buy a home on the open market has reopened for applications.   The Open Market Shared Equity Scheme will be available to people across Scotland who can't afford the full price of a home from groups which include social renters, disabled people, people aged 60 and over, members of the armed forces and veterans.

Social security payment rates increased for 2024-25

14 Scottish Government benefits including Carer Support Payment, disability benefits and Best Start Grants will increase by 6.7% in April.   The increases are in line with inflation as measured by the Consumers Price Index.

Minimum Wage Rise From 1 April 2025

Starting tomorrow 1 April 2025 the National Minimum Wage and National Living Wage in the UK will increase as follows: National Living Wage (21 and over): £12.21 per hour (a 6.7% rise from £11.44).   18-20 Year Old Rate: £10.00 per hour (a 16.3% increase).

Highland council Increasing charges from 1 April

Highland Council is implementing several changes to service charges in 2025: Council Rent Charges: An 8% increase has been agreed for council homes to address rising costs and fund housing improvements.  The average weekly rent for council homes will rise to £82.84, which is still below the national average.
