Retail sales, Great Britain June 2025

1.Overview Retail sales volumes (quantity bought) are estimated to have risen by 0.9% in June 2025, following a fall of 2.8% in May 2025 (revised down from a fall of 2.7% in our last bulletin).   Food store sales rose following a fall in May 2025, with retailers reporting the warm weather had a positive effect.

Additional funding for independent hospices

The Scottish Government is to distribute £5 million of funding in 2025-26 to support independent hospices with pay parity for clinical staff with their NHS counterparts.   Hospices have now had their funding allocations confirmed and the investment, set out in the 2025-26 Budget, will ensure that frontline staff providing essential palliative and end-of-life care in independent hospices are fairly paid in line with NHS pay scales.

Online spending was on fire in flaming June

The latest ONS retail sales results show a 2.3% jump in the amount Brits spent online in June.  That helped e-commerce snatch 27.7% of all retail sales last month, says the home delivery expert Parcelhero.

Government will fail to meet its employment target unless firms recruit and retain more disabled workers

The UK Government will struggle to achieve an 80 per cent employment rate unless it further incentivises firms to employ disabled workers - via return-to-work recruitment incentives and a new Right to Reintegration - according to new research published today (Thursday 24 July 2025) by the Resolution Foundation.   The report Opening Doors notes that while the headline employment rate for disabled people has risen from 44 to 54 per cent between 2014 and 2025, new analysis reveals that when accounting for the rising prevalence of disability among the working-age population, disability-related labour market exclusion has actually deteriorated.

Brits planning to holiday in the UK falls by 21%

Over three quarters (77%) of UK adults plan to take a summer holiday in 2025, down from 85% last year The number of people planning UK staycations is down by 21% (from 57% to 45%).   Financial concerns are the leading reason for Brits opting not to travel this summer - 46% of those who forego holidays cite money as the reason why.

Pilot to support oil and gas workers in the North East

Car Sales and Van Sales in 2025 - down down down

New car registrations in the UK reached 120,331 units in April 2025, down 10.4% year-on-year.   In contrast, January 2025 saw 19,050 new van registrations, a steeper decline of 20.5%.
