Does Your Business Need To Pay The ICO Data Protection Fee?

Any business that electronically handles people's personal information, such as names and addresses, must register with the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) and pay the annual data protection fee, unless the organisation has qualified for an exemption.   The fee helps to fund the work of the ICO, and the amount is based on an organisation's nature, size, and turnover.

Council Raises Awareness Of Market Operator's Licences For Any Businesses, Companies Or Organisations

The Highland Council is asking any businesses, companies or organisations who are planning to hold any type of market, including Christmas or festive type markets, to contact the Licensing Service to check if they require a market operator's licence.   If a licence is required, organisers will have to have applied for, and had this granted, prior to the market taking place.

Building Digital Infrastructure - Faster Broadband Access For All New Homes

Faster broadband will feature in all new build homes in Scotland from 1 January 2025.   Legislation amending building standards will require developers to ensure all new build homes have the physical infrastructure as well as a gigabit-capable connection, subject to a £2,000 cost cap per dwelling.

First Minister John Swinney has said the Scottish Government will focus on maximising investment from newly created UK Government energy initiatives, including Great British Energy, the National Wealth Fund and the Clean Power 2030 Mission, in projects in Scotland.   The pledge came as the First Minister co-chaired his first meeting of the Scottish Energy Advisory Board, the key expert body which advises the Scottish Government on energy.

Predicted August riots sales slump didn't happen as fashion led High Street’s fightback

Retailers had been bracing themselves for a significant fall in High Street sales following anti-immigration riots and unrest in a number of UK cities in early August.  In fact, sales volumes climbed by 1% thanks to the belated arrival of warmer weather, says the home delivery expert Parcelhero.

Retail Sales Great Britain - August 2024

Retail sales volumes (quantity bought) are estimated to have risen by 1.0% in August 2024, following a rise of 0.7% in July 2024 (revised up from a 0.5% rise in our previous publication).   Some supermarkets and clothing retailers reported a boost because of warmer weather and end-of-season sales.

NDA Announces Multi-million Phd Bursary Commitment At Summit

At the Nuclear Decommissioning Authority biannual stakeholder summit, CEO David Peattie announced up to £5 million over five years to support around 20 PhDs.   On the 17th and 18th of September the Nuclear Decommissioning Authority (NDA) hosted its biannual in person stakeholder summit, bringing together over 170 delegates from national and local government, the nuclear sector and site communities.
