466 new cases of COVID-19 reported.   16,342 new tests for COVID-19 that reported results - 3.3% of these were positive.

NHS Highland Bullying - Time is running out to make a claim - 31 March 2021
The registration deadline for NHS Highland Healing Process has been extended to 31 March 2021.   The Healing Process is an independent service developed by NHS Highland in partnership with whistle blowers, colleagues and other stakeholders, with Scottish Government funding, to help individuals who have suffered from historical bullying and harassment while working for the health board in Highland and Argyll & Bute.

Transport Secretary confirms Scotland is working with UK Government to develop a Covid passport using NHS data - but it's lagging behind, says Highlands & Islands Labour MSP David Stewart.   The Scottish Government is engaging with the UK government on a four-nations approach to develop a Covid passport.

Highland Council has said that illegal fly-tipping is costing the region's taxpayers thousands and is encouraging people to report anyone they see doing it.   Council operatives were alerted to an incident of fly-tipping at the Attadale Estate on the A890 at Strathcarron, where 153 tyres were dumped at the side of the road.

Parents Updated Today On Next Phase Of Highland Pupils Return
A letter has been distributed today to update parents and carers on the next phase of the re-opening of schools in Highland.  The Scottish Government announced last week that more pupils are to return to school (external link) from Monday 15 March.

Failure to support the nation's pubs return from lockdown risks imperilling the government's levelling up agenda for economic and social renewal, the think-tank Localis has warned today.   In a report issued today entitled ‘The Power of Pubs - protecting social infrastructure and laying the groundwork for levelling up' Localis argued it was vital that the lockdown roadmap is not allowed to slip back further for pubs, and that the commitment to end all trading restrictions by 21 June must be delivered to return all pubs to viable trading.

Inverness Highland Games 2021 Cancelled
The organisers of the annual Inverness Highland Games confirmed today that they have decided to cancel the event in 2021.   The Inverness Highland Games committee said that the ongoing uncertainty around what COVID restrictions might be in place by the date of the event left them with no choice but to cancel this year.

Royal Mail Scam Text Message Alert
The Highland Council Trading Standards team have been alerted to a smishing scam that is currently targeting Highland residents.   The scam involves a text message claiming to be from Royal Mail advising the recipient that they are holding a piece of mail due to unpaid postage.

Covid Outbreak At Ward 2c In Raigmore Hospital
On Saturday 6 March visiting and admissions to Raigmore Hospital Ward 2c was suspended due to a Covid outbreak.   Ward 2C at Raigmore Hospital is closed to new admissions and visiting following the detection of a very small number of cases of Covid-19.

Rhoda Grant MSP Highlights B&B support
Highlands and Islands Labour MSP Rhoda Grant has welcomed the expansion of funding for B&B and guest house owners and self-catering businesses but believes the Scottish Government should "hang its head in shame" over its handling of the process.   It follows the government's announcement that the support net has been widened, however Mrs Grant understands that there is only a seven day window to apply for this fund.

New Immigration Rules Provide Boost For Scottish Fishing Industry
The Scottish fishing industry has received a major boost as new immigration rules make it easier to recruit skilled deckhands from abroad.   The Home Office has accepted the Migration Advisory Committee recommendation that deckhands on large fishing vessels, with three or more years of experience using their skills, should be included in the list of occupations eligible for Skilled Worker visas.
