Broch Rose Gin Event on Wednesday 20th June

The launch of Broch Rose gin is on Wednesday 20th evening at the distillery tasting room of Dunnet Bat Distillery.   Tickets are £20 including a Rock Rose G&T, canapes, tutored tasting of Broch Rose gin and to finish a Broch Rose G&T.

Caithness Horizons Cuts Manager Post And Reduces Curator Hours

Uncertainty over funding from Highland council.   Caithness Horizons, which tells the story of the county of Caithness from 416 million years ago to the present day, has deleted its manager post and cut its curator's hours from 40 to 20 hours a week in anticipation of funding cuts.

Study Shows North Coast 500 Route Added £9million Extra Spending

The North Coast 500 (NC500) tourist route, launched in 2015, has had a positive impact on both visitor numbers and business trade.   This is according to a new report commissioned by Highlands and Islands Enterprise (HIE).

Caithness Seacoast Adventure Tours loacated at Wick harbour have started their new season.   Seacoast offers a range of short and longer tours of the Caithness coast opens up a special way to see the cliffs that cannot be seen from most places.

Major Expansion at Caithness Distillery

A Caithness distillery has embarked on a major expansion that will boost its turnover and international sales and create at least one new job.   Dunnet Bay Distillery (DBDL) has secured a £64,000 contribution from Highlands and Islands Enterprise (HIE) towards the £248,000 development.

Dunnet Bay Distillery launches its third Seasonal Rock Rose Gin: The Autumn Edition

On 7th October, Dunnet Bay Distillery, the UK's most northerly mainland distillery will launch its third seasonal release.   As with each limited edition in the range, the Autumn Edition features the same base botanicals as the multi award-winning Rock Rose Gin but with some seasonal variations.

North MSP asks vital questions on the North Coast 500 Route

Highlands & Islands MSP, Rhoda Grant, asked Fiona Hyslop, the Cabinet Secretary for Culture, Tourism and External Affairs at Portfolio Questions; what plans the Government had to develop tourism facilities on the North Coast 500 tourist route.  Having confirmed that there was a multi agency group looking at this issue, Rhoda Grant went onto ask the Cabinet Secretary if the Government would help Highland Council fund essential maintenance and upgrades along this route to ensure it is a safe as possible and given much of it is single track road.

Hand-crafted in the far North of Scotland, Holy Grass Vodka, is the latest release from the multi-award winning Dunnet Bay Distillery in Caithness.  It features the unusual botanical Holy Grass (or Anthoxanthum nitens ), once discovered on the banks of the nearby Thurso River by Robert Dick.

Caithness Horizons Museum welcomes half a million visitors.

Tuesday 11th August saw local group No Limits Caithness visit the Museum for a morning packed with Viking activities with Curator Joanne Howdle, or Thordis Eiríksdóttir as she is fondly known to local groups and schools.   The group helped the Museum to hit the half million visitors mark and to celebrate they were presented with a special cake made in the Museum's cafe.

Duke of Rothesay Tours Dunnet Bay Distillery

Today, Friday 31st July 2015, The Duke of Rothesay took a tour of Dunnet Bay Distillery, the thriving Caithness distillery, where husband and wife team, Martin and Claire Murray, handcraft Rock Rose Gin.   This acclaimed gin features botanicals that are hand foraged from local cliffs and forests to create a gin with a unique and award-winning flavour profile.

Scientists from around the world recently gathered in Thurso for an annual biological sciences meeting.  The Larwood Symposium was hosted by the Environmental Research Institute (ERI) of the North Highland College UHI on behalf of the International Bryozoology Association.

Caithness Horizons Museum retains five star Visit Scotland grading for 7th year in a row

Caithness Horizons Museum in Thurso has recently been reviewed by Visit Scotland grading authority and are delighted to keep its Five Star Visitor Attraction status for a seventh year running.   The news comes shortly after receiving a Certificate Of Excellence from Trip Advisor earlier in the month.
