Budget 2025 - Reeves tackles cost-of-living and backs Scottish industry at Budget

Scottish families will benefit from a Budget to cut the cost-of-living, create more high skilled jobs and invest in public services, as the Chancellor reaffirmed her commitment to drive economic growth.   Chancellor announces fair deal for working families with removal of two-child benefit cap, energy bill saving and fuel duty freeze .

Budget 2025 - Digging Deeper If You Have The Stamina

This Budget takes the fair and necessary choices to deliver on the government's promise of change: Cutting the cost of living by tackling inflation and taking around £150 off energy bills on average from April next year, and implementing a one-year freeze on regulated train fares and prescriptions charges.   Cutting the NHS waiting list in England, supported by 5.2 million more appointments delivered since the start of the Parliament and by creating 250 new Neighbourhood Health Centres.

Tartan challenge for UHI students offers £1,500 prize

Students from across the University of the Highlands and Islands (UHI) partnership have been challenged to design a tartan and be in with a chance of winning a £1,500 cash prize.   Highlands and Islands Enterprise (HIE) has launched THE COMPETITION to mark 60 years since the regional development agency (then named Highlands and Islands Development Board) was established in November 1965.

Soft drink levy - The Sugar Tax - extended to protect children and improve health - Milk shakes, Coffees and Yogurt Drinks

The government has announced an extension of the soft drinks industry levy to more high-sugar drinks, including milk-based drinks.   Soft drinks levy will be extended to cover more products, including sugary milk-based drinks.

Army benefits from contract to modernise Defence estate in Edinburgh

Army personnel will benefit from new and improved facilities across Dreghorn Barracks, Glencorse Barracks and Colinton Road Reserve Centre.   Army personnel in Edinburgh are set to benefit from improved living, working and training facilities, following the announcement of a new contract that will deliver infrastructure investment at three locations on the Defence estate in Scotland.

UK smashes Russian cybercrime networks responsible for attacks on UK businesses

The UK, US and Australia yesterday announced new sanctions targeting Media Land, a Russian cyber crime group providing so-called 'bulletproof' hosting services.   New sanctions target the Media Land cybercrime syndicate responsible for facilitating cyber-attacks on UK-based companies.

TRA recommendation to impose duties on Chinese biodiesel accepted

The Secretary of State for Business & Trade has accepted the TRA's recommendation to impose anti-dumping measures on biodiesel imports from China.   On the 24 November 2025, the Secretary of State accepted the Trade Remedies Authority's final recommendation to apply a new anti-dumping duty on imports of biodiesel from China.

What do the 2025 Local Digital Index findings show?

The tech sector is now contributing £101billion in Gross Value Added (GVA), employing around 1.7m people and has a 3-year projected growth of 8.9%.   The sector continues to host world classes companies, digital economies and local ecosystems in London, Oxford and Cambridge but also in Edinburgh, Manchester and Bristol.

UKHO supports UK resilience in positioning, navigation and timing

In October, the UKHO hosted the UK's first cross-government geodesy, positioning, navigation and timing working group.   Representatives from 19 government bodies came together to share insight on the risks, opportunities and interdependencies linked to PNT systems, including Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSS).
