The UK has announced emergency funding to support families affected by the devastating earthquake which hit Afghanistan.   Afghan families to receive UK emergency funding following earthquake in eastern Afghanistan which has killed over 800 people.

Offshore Marine Protected Areas

Extra protection for Scotland's marine environment with new measures coming into effect from October.   Fisheries management measures for Marine Protected Areas within offshore waters between 12 and 200 nautical miles from the coast will come into effect from 16 October.

Households boost savings despite high inflation

According to the recent Bank of England Money and Credit report, during July households deposited £4.3 billion into interest bearing sight accounts.  This is the highest since January, which stood at £5.8 billion.

Over half a million children to benefit from funded childcare

The government has delivered its pledge to fund childcare for 30 hours a week - saving parents £7,500 a year, per child, and putting more money in their pockets.   Take-up is expected to be over and above initial projections, with over half a million kids on track to be more school ready by age 5 as we give every child the best start in life.

Treaties like the ECHR protect everyone in the UK, not just migrants

Reform UK has laid out plans for an "emergency programme" to address illegal immigration.  The party argues its plans, which include expanding immigration detention capacity from the current roughly 2,200 places to 24,000, would enable the deportation of up to 600,000 people over a parliamentary term.

Peak fares in Scotland gone for good

Customers travelling on ScotRail services (1 September), will pay the same fare no matter what time they travel as peak fares are scrapped for good.   In a first for rail travel anywhere in Britain, the Scottish Government policy is aiming to make train fares simpler, more flexible, and provide better value for money for rail users.

Successful first year for Old Man of Storr development

Highland Council's new facilities at the famed Old Man of Storr in Skye have enjoyed a highly successful first year in operation.   A report which went before the Skye and Raasay Committee on Monday outlined the achievements since Ionad an Stòir/The Storr Centre opened its doors last July.
