Its been a busy few days at local community-owned Gills Harbour ..... sometimes in suberb sunny weather as here ... with three workboats berthed during a programme of inspection etc. works on Simec Atlantis Energy's (SAE's) sub-sea tidal stream 'world-leading' MeyGen site, just a mile in the Pentland Firth's Inner Sound from the little port on Scotland's North coast.
In the foreground is Green Quest that belongs to Green Marine (UK) Ltd of Stromness, Orkney; MD Skipper Jason Schofield.
The inner vessel berthed to the seaward is the near-new catamaran Athenia that is owned by Roving Eye Enterprises Ltd of Orphir, Scapa flow, Orkney (MD Mr Keith Bichan )
As the weather was fine the boats berthed at Gills and saved themselves the expense and buffeting that a one-hour diversion to Wick or Scrabster would have involved mainly because of the intervening tidal races where whit-water breaks daily on the appropriate tidal-stream.
Earlier this month SAE appointed renewables and civil engineering veteran Mr Graham Reid at its new CEO. One of his key tasks will be upgrading the deployment of turbines at the demonstration MeyGen site to convert it into the world's largest tidal stream array.
