NDA Appoints Lawrie Haynes As New Chair Designate For Dounreay

David Peattie, Chief Executive Officer of the Nuclear Decommissioning Authority, has announced the appointment of Lawrie Haynes as Chair Designate of Dounreay Site Restoration Ltd.  (DSRL).

15 Further Call Handling Jobs For Police Centre In Inverness

Cllr Matthew Reiss, Highland Council's Strategic Lead for Police and Fire has welcomed Police Scotland's announcement that it has created fifteen new posts to further enhance the development of call handling services, based in Inverness.   He said: "We were delighted in October last year to welcome 25 new jobs in Inverness with the creation of a specialist call handling service team and these fifteen additional new posts based in the Highlands are great news.

£12m UK-Japan Robotics Deal For Fusion Energy And Nuclear Decommissioning Research

UK-Japan relationship in nuclear science boosted by robotics and automation.   Britain and Japan have signed a research and technology deployment collaboration to help automate nuclear decommissioning and aspects of fusion energy production.

Nuclear Decommissioning Agency Update - New Transport and Waste Divisions

Multi-million Design Contract Secured For Dounreay Waste Repackaging Facility

The Decommissioning Services Framework (DDF) Alliance, led by Cavendish Nuclear and supported by KDC Contractors (Veolia) and BAM Nuttall (BAM), has been successfully awarded a contract for the design of a new waste repackaging facility at the Dounreay nuclear site.   The programme of work is expected to run until early 2022 and forms part of Dounreay Site Restoration Limited's (DSRL's) Decommissioning Services Framework.

Mark Rouse appointed as Managing Director of Dounreay

Dounreay Site Restoration Limited (DSRL) has announced the appointment of Mark Rouse as its Managing Director.   Mark took up the position of Managing Director in March 2020 but will now move from the current parent body organisation to Dounreay Site Restoration Limited to continue leading the business when it becomes an NDA subsidiary on 1 April 2021.

Changes to criminal court business

Justice Secretary Humza Yousaf has responded to the Lord President's decision to reduce the number of criminal trials as part of efforts to reduce the transmission of coronavirus (COVID-19).   The Justice Secretary said:"I welcome the Lord President's decisive action, which balances the interests of justice with the very serious public health challenges presented by the new variant of the coronavirus (COVID-19).

Significant Milestone Reached With Concrete 'mega Pour'

Work on Dounreay's newest radioactive waste store went up a storey last week, with the completion of a ‘mega' concrete pour.   The construction project was one of the first to re-start work on 22 June, following the easing of lock down restrictions.

The12-week public consultation on the NDA's Draft Strategy is about to close

The public consultation on the NDA's Draft Strategy 4 closes at 5pm on Sunday 8th November 2020.   Because of the current Government guidance around social distancing during the COVID-19 pandemic, we have created a virtual consultation exhibition to give members of the public a chance to delve into the key themes, before making a response.

Community Groups See Investment Of Over £150k In Latest Funding Round

Seven community projects are to benefit from over £150k of funding following the Caithness & North Sutherland Fund's latest grant awards.   CNSFund Chairperson David Glass said "Our latest grant investments will enable community groups to deliver a wide range of improvements to benefit people living in Caithness & North Sutherland.

Contract For World's Deepest Nuclear Clean-up Awarded At Dounreay

Dounreay has awarded a major contract as the world's deepest nuclear clean-up job gets underway.   Dounreay Site Restoration Ltd (DSRL), on behalf of the Nuclear Decommissioning Authority, awarded the £7.5 million contract for "advanced transition works" at the 65 metre deep shaft and silo to Nuvia and its partner Graham Construction, through the site's decommissioning framework following a competitive tendering process.

NDA Launches Leadership Partnership To Inspire Young Nuclear Professionals

The Nuclear Decommissioning Authority (NDA) has today launched a year-long partnership aimed at inspiring and supporting young people in the nuclear industry.   Chief Executive David Peattie announced the NDA's partnership with the Nuclear Institute's Young Generation Network (YGN) today at a special webinar for young professionals.

New Research On Net Zero Opportunities For Scotland's Ports

A report launched by Crown Estate Scotland on 2nd September 2020 shows how Scotland's ports and harbours can tap into the huge potential created by the development of offshore wind in the years to come.   The report, titled: Ports for offshore wind: A review of the net-zero opportunity for ports in Scotland comes just months after the launch of Scotland's first offshore wind leasing round for a decade, ScotWind Leasing, which is set to kick start Scotland's new generation of offshore wind farms and build new demand for operations and maintenance facilities to support major projects.

Caithness Chamber of Commerce's new Test and Protect service, #ProtectNorthHighlands, goes live today (26 August) across Caithness and Sutherland.  Offering a simple, secure way for businesses to store customer data in line with Scottish Government's requirements for Test and Protect, the service is free to all businesses across the region thanks to the generous support of Highlands and Islands Enterprise.

NDA Calls For People To Have Their Say On Its Strategy

The Nuclear Decommissioning Authority has today published its fourth Draft Strategy and begun a 12-week public consultation.   The NDA regularly reviews its Strategy to ensure it has the right approach to decommissioning its 17 nuclear sites and benefits from the latest learning, best practice and can continue to deliver value for the taxpayer.

Caithness Chamber Of Commerce To Launch Free Test & Protect Service For North Highland Businesses

Caithness Chamber of Commerce is delighted to announce that, thanks to the generous support of Highlands & Islands Enterprise, it will be launching a free, simple online service to allow hospitality businesses across the North Highlands to safely collect and store customer data in line with official guidelines to support the Scottish Government's Test & Protect Programme.   This new service, #ProtectNorthHighlands, will be launching on 26 August and will be free for any business in Caithness and Sutherland to access.

Scottish Chamber of Commerce Respond To Scottish Government Gdp Statistics For Q2 2020

Commenting on the publication of Scottish Government GDP statistics for Q2 2020, Dr Liz Cameron, Chief Executive of the Scottish Chambers of Commerce said: "The collapse in Scotland's GDP in the second quarter sets alarm bells ringing even if the fall was expected.  The 19.7% decline from April to June makes Scotland’s and the UK’s economies among the worst performing in Europe.
